Nov 28, 2013 $2 1/2 Gold pieces or Quarter Eagles were made from 1796 through 1929. Most dates before 1834 are very rare and are seldom seen by the public. The types most often found are the Coronet Liberty Head type made from 1840 through 1907, and the Indian Head type made from 1908 through 1929. These two capital H’s represent the initials of Horst Hahne, the Royal Australian Mint chief engraver at the time that the two dollar coin was introduced in 1988. He sculpted the aboriginal portrait on the reverse of the coin ( you can read more about who the portrait depicts here ) and the HH initials commemorate this fact. USA Coin Book Estimated Value of 1915 Indian Head Gold $2.50 Quarter Eagle is Worth $464 in Average Condition and can be Worth $594 to $1,318 or more in Uncirculated (MS+) Mint Condition. Proof Coins can be Worth $13,028 or more. The Royal Australian Mint issued Australian Dollar coins in 8 different denominations, including this Australian 2 dollar coin. They are part of the Australian Dollar coins series. The Royal Australian Mint started issuing these 2 Australian Dollar coins in 1999.

German Planchet
In 1996, the Deutsche Nickel in Germany produced 10 million preassembled planchets for the Royal Canadian Mint to be able to produce the first 60 million 2-dollars coins. German planchet 1996 2-dollar coins have lines across the ring with a dull/matte finish instead. It is much easier to identify them when still uncirculated.
